The challenges of the textile industry vis-à-vis the circular economy

The textile sector must face many challenges: sustainable supply, substitution of toxic substances, traceability, recycling, etc. The health crisis that occurred at the start of 2020 also emphasized the need to (re)develop French production.

Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the first textile industrial region in France and the second in Europe.

On the territory, historical and contemporary actors cooperate, innovate, and structure the sector. They thus put their know-how at the service of production models to be more resilient, more respectful of the environment and of people.

Meetings co-organized by CIRIDD have brought together players in the circular textile sector, bringing together Major Accounts and SMEs of the territory (producers, retailers, users, etc.).

The purpose of these meetings is twofold:

  • Discover circular economy initiatives in textiles, adapt to new national and international regulations, relocate production, enhance management of scrap, unsold and dormant stocks.
  • Discuss with textile SMEs and associated activities on their solutions, identify local and agile companies and open up opportunities.
